Kerrang! Resentless Tour 2010

The figure above shows a double page spread of Kerrang!. The article attracts the audience because its features makes it unique, interesting and appealing to the reader. Overall, the double page spread looks well composed and balanced. The page uses two types of communication- visual as there are many pictures conveying information and written as the actual article is written in a text format. The contrasted colors attract viewers' attention because they make the article stand out. Moreover, the combination of bright colours( e.g. bright blue with white) builds up an association with energy, drive, liveliness and power. This agrees with the purpose of the article because it advertises/reviews an event sponsored by the energy drink Relentless which is expected to be lively, fun and aimed at young people who are full of energy and have the drive to do crazy, fun things.I am now going to analyse each aspect of the article in more depth by looking at its main features, aims and extent of effectiveness.

The picture shows the main element of the second page of the double-page spread article. It's a well exposed and adjusted picture of a famous rock star who is going to be performing at the tour. The close-up is incredibly successful in persuading the audience to attend the tour because his position near the audience suggests that he wants them to be there and feel close to the "stars".

Another feature that attracts my attention is the unique position of his head. The reader usually expects the picture to be concentrated on strong eye contact and facial impression. This is thought to be the most important element of visual persuasion. However, this article presents us with something new ,different but yet incredible powerful. The celebrity uses body language( mainly his eyes and head) to get the audience interested in the event by pointing out the title and subtitle with his head. This is so interesting as it makes the viewer feel welcomed to the event and makes him realise he should should attend the tour.

The figure on the left shows another main feature of the double-page article- the heading and sub-headings. The font used is very appropriate for the theme of the article. It looks a bit ghostly and fun which directs it to young people (who are also the target audience of the event). The font is also appropriate for the genre of music it represent because modern rock music is usually associated with ghostly, effective and brutal images. The size font is quite big so that peoles' attention is drawn to the writting.

"It's Comming" is the main title because it's persuasive and introduces the article. Emotive language has been used as another persuasive device so that people would be interested in the event and would not hesitate to attend. The picture also shows how effective the body language of the guy is. His head directs the viewer to the article and welcomes him to the event.Another aspect that I have found very interesting and professional is the way the five titles/sub-titles are positioned within the page. All of them are in the centre as if they are equally important for the article. The viewer can't misread any of the headings because they lead to one another.

From my questionnaire I have found out that people are incredible interested in being presented with a lot of pictures of the celebrities they love.It is clear that the editors of Kerrang! know that because they have included about four pictures of artists in the double-page spread. The audience would be happy and satisfied to see all of these pictures in their music magazine.

The pictures are another visual persuasive device used to engage the reader and convince him to attend the event because they portrait the celebrities who will be part from the tour.People are more likely to attend it if they know their favourite groups are performing. That's why Kerrang! ensures the viewer is fully informed about the artists performing on the tour. The pictures are layed out in an interesting way- they form the bottom border of the article. They have been adjusted and edited (cropped) using image editing software such as Photoshop. The final product is very attractive and effective lay out of images and texts.
